Semiconductor laser diodes are delicate devices and care should be taken to install them properly.

First of all, diode lasers generate a lot of heat, therefore adequate heat removal is of paramount importance for achieving the specified power output, wavelength and lifetime. In most cases, active control of the temperature is required. Depending on the laser diode design, it can be achieved by liquid cooling, forced or convection air cooling, or TEC.

Secondly, it is crucial to mount laser diode products without imposing uneven stress, which in turn may distort the alignment of micro-optic elements inside the laser package.

Please check below our recommended mounting for different laser diode packages.

C-mount

Use a brass screw to attach C-mount to the heat spreader. For the best performance make the heat spreader out of OFHC, but aluminum will be adequate for many applications. Place indium foil between the C-mount and the heat spreader. A thin sheet of high thermal conductivity pyrolytic graphite or heat conducting grease may be used instead.   Use 4 M2 stainless steel screws to clamp TEC between the heat spreader and heatsink. Place plastic washers under the screw heads for better thermal isolation. A heat conducting grease, indium foil or high thermal conductivity pyrolytic graphite should be placed on both sides of the TEC to ensure good thermal conduction.

QUINTA

Use 4 M3 stainless steel screws to clamp TEC between the laser module and heatsink. Place plastic washers under the screw heads for better thermal isolation. A heat conducting grease, indium foil or high thermal conductivity pyrolytic graphite should be placed on both sides of the TEC to ensure good thermal conduction.
